Becoming a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) is the most popular and rewarding way to build the 1,500 hours required for an airline career — because you get paid to fly while you do it. Aerotech trains primary instructors (CFI), instrument instructors (CFII), and multi-engine instructors (MEI), and frequently hires our own graduates.
Why instructors are in demand
The national pilot shortage starts at the bottom of the ladder: schools everywhere need instructors. Teaching forces you to truly master what you already know, builds flight time fast, and pays — instead of paying to build hours another way. There is high demand for instructors right here at KSVR, and Aerotech regularly brings on our own CFI graduates.
The three instructor certificates
- CFI — Certified Flight Instructor (airplane single-engine). Teach primary students through their private and commercial certificates.
- CFII — Certified Flight Instructor Instrument. Add the ability to teach the instrument rating.
- MEI — Multi-Engine Instructor. Teach in twins and build valuable multi-engine time.
Stacking all three makes you maximally employable and accelerates your hour-building.
What instructor training covers
Beyond flying from the right seat, you'll master the fundamentals of instruction — how people learn, lesson planning, and teaching maneuvers by explaining, demonstrating, and coaching. Spin training is part of the CFI curriculum, and we provide it in-house.
